The Importance of Windshield Wipers

When you think of vehicle safety, wiper blades are probably not one of the first things that come to mind.

But did you know that windshield wipers rank among the most important safety features on your car? Windshield wipers are important for providing a clear, unobstructed view. Impaired vision while driving is extremely dangerous -and is a contributing factor in as many as 90% of all accidents.

The number one feature of a windshield wiper blade is to keep your vision clear while driving. A high quality wiper blade that is in good condition can help keep you safe while on the road.

Here are a few things that you can do to help ensure that your windshield wipers are in great shape; keeping your windshield clear and clean while you are on the road.

Maintain Your Wipers

When dirt becomes trapped, it could scrape across your windshield causing scratches and damage. Maintain your wipers by cleaning them whenever they are dirty to ensure that dirt isn’t trapped underneath of them.

Watch the Weather

Heat and freezing temperatures can affect your wiper blades as well. When wiper blades are affected by freezing temperatures, they can become hardened and brittle, leaving the blades unable to perform properly –and instead skipping or leaving streaks. With wiper blades damaged by sun, or by overexposure to heat, the rubber becomes hardened as well. They streak, and skip across the windshield instead of gliding smoothly, causing your view to become obstructed, and creating a dangerous driving situation.

Replace When Damaged

A damaged, broken, or worn windshield wiper blade can do damage to your windshield. Replace your windshield wipers frequently in order to keep your windshield clear of rain, snow, ice, and other debris that might obstruct your view.

It is recommended that windshield wipers are replaced every 6-12 months, depending on the climate and your use of your wiper blades.

Keep your windshield in good shape. Making sure your windshield wipers are in good condition by replacing them regularly can help to keep your windshield from damage as well.
